CITY GOVERNANCE

Irving operates under a strong city manager form of government. The Irving City Council is comprised of a mayor and eight council members serving rotating three-year terms.

Council members and staff are committed to ensuring the city’s financial stability. Their focus has resulted in consistently receiving AAA bond ratings from both Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s Investor Services.

In 2012, the city received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award—only the second municipality to receive the honor for performance excellence. The prestigious Baldridge Award is bestowed by the president of the United States and honors both public and private organizations.

Business and Economy

Irving has a strong and solid economy due to the existence of thousands of successful businesses and their contributions to the City—and all projections show that the economy will continue to grow through the next decade.

North Texas is in the top one third of metropolitan areas in the U.S. for business expansion and Irving leads in many categories. For example, Las Colinas offers the most square footage of office space in North Texas.

  • The local temperatures ranges from 34 in January to 96 in July.
  • There is an average of about 33 inches of rain per year and very little snowfall in the winter.
