A new trail in Irving will connect the city’s downtown to Campion Trail, the 22-mile greenbelt along Elm and West forks of the Trinity River.

The first phase of the project, called the Delaware Creek Trail Connector, is now complete, and construction on the second portion is scheduled to begin this fall.

Winding through Senter and Fritz parks, the 2.1-trail mile connector will link downtown to Campion Trail at Mountain Creek Preserve.

Phase 1, which is open to the public, includes a 12-foot wide concrete trail and pedestrian bridge on the east side of Center Park.

Phase 2 will run along Nursery Road from the Delaware Creek Bridge to the intersection of Hunter Ferrell Road. It will include several upgrades to existing infrastructure, including improved drainage and a reconstructed intersection at Hunter Ferrell Road.

Completion is scheduled for late 2022.
