An Irving women’s shelter was forced to evacuate families after burst pipes caused the ceiling to collapse at one of its facilities.

The shelter, Brighter Tomorrows, said no one was injured, but that it was unsafe for families to remain in the building.

“It’s unfortunate that these women and children who have already been uprooted are being uprooted again,” development director Crystal Moore said. “We’re grateful no one was injured, but this is just very difficult.”

Brighter Tomorrows initially planned to relocate residents to a nearby hotel, but that plan was scrapped after pipes also burst at the hotel, Moore said. The agency instead squeezed them into a second shelter it operates until it can find additional space.

Brighter Tomorrows is asking for donations during this time. You can donate here.
