IRVING SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL

Merton, England / Espoo, Finland / Boulogne-Billancourt, France / Marino, Italy / Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico / Darkhan, Darkhan Uul Mongolia & Irving, Texas!

What Is Sister Cities?
Sister Cities International began in 1956 as a people-to-people initiative proposed by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  Born during the aftermath of the Second World War, the sister city movement originated with aid programs assisting  war-devastated cities.

Today's sister city movement has matured into a flourishing global network. No two sister city relationships are alike.  Sister city partners engage in exchange and community development programs spanning a host of issues: Arts and Culture / Economic Development / Humanitarian Assistance / Sustainable Development / Youth and Recreation.

How Does Irving Benefit?

Irving Sister Cities International (ISCI) is a division of the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce. ISCI benefits the entire Irving community--individuals, businesses, schools and universities, and cultural and fraternal organizations.
ISCI is building relationships that:

  • Enables Irving to develop municipal partnerships between foreign cities with similar interests, concerns, and outlooks.
  • Provides opportunities for Irving citizens to experience and explore other cultures through long-term community partnerships.
  • Stimulates environments through which Irving and its sister communities will creatively learn, work and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural, educational, municipal, business, professional, and technical exchanges and projects.
  • Provides a forum to collaborate with organizations in other countries that share similar goals.
  • Enhances Irving's international reputation as the gateway to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
  • Serves as a protocol resource for the city of Irving.
  • Attracts international businesses, students, and tourists to Irving.
  • Provides unparalleled educational opportunities for our children and students of all ages.

Where Do You Fit In?
ISCI needs your participation, your energy, your commitment, and above all, your enthusiasm. Sister City members, as volunteers, are a community's citizen diplomats. Whether you are a sponsor or a volunteer, your involvement is crucial to our success.
