Residents and employees in Irving enjoy the most favorable transportation options in North Texas. Whether heading to work or overseas, travelers and commuters alike benefit from convenient access to airports, major highways and rail.

Chamber investors, city council members and staff, and community volunteers actively collaborate with other cities and counties in regional transportation planning through the North Central Texas Council of Governments and its Regional Transportation Council.

Traveling from Irving to anywhere reachable by car is a cinch. Several major highways run through Irving providing easy access to locations within and beyond city limits. There are three interstate highways that run through or border the city (I-635, I-35 and I-30) and four state highways (SH 114, SH 183, SH 161 and Loop 12).

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) provides modern public transportation to Irving and a dozen other Metroplex municipalities through its extensive network of DART Light Rail trains, Trinity Railway Express commuter rail, bus routes and paratransit services.

Commuter & Light Rail

DART’s commuter train, the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), and its light rail Orange Line run right through Irving.

The TRE is a passenger rail system that runs between Dallas and Fort Worth with two stations in Irving—one in the heart of the Downtown Heritage district.

With 90 miles of track—the most of any light rail in the country—the DART Light Rail system connects commuters to their jobs and many areas in the region. The Orange Line runs through Irving on its route from DFW Airport through downtown Dallas, north along Central Expressway to North Dallas.

Riders can board the train from any of four stations in Irving and easily get to the theatre before curtain time, catch a flight at DFW Airport, attend an event at American Airlines Center or simply explore a new restaurant.

DFW Airport / Love Field

DFW Airport
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is the third busiest airport in the world in aircraft movement, and ninth based on passenger traffic. In addition to serving as a major hub for American Airlines, many domestic and international carriers fly in and out of DFW Airport: AeroMexico, Air Canada, American Airlines, Avianca, British Airways, Cayman Airways, Delta Air Lines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Frontier Airlines, Interjects, Japan Airlines, jetBlue, Korean Air, Lufthansa, QANTAS, Qatar Airways, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, Voleries, and WestJet.

Part of the airport is within City of Irving boundaries which means travelers can get to the airport in approximately 15 minutes from anywhere in the city.

Dallas Love Field
Dallas Love Field is one of the finest general-purpose airports in the world serving both commercial airlines and corporate users’ needs. It is less than a 20-minute ride from most parts of Irving. It is the headquarters of Southwest Airlines.

Midtown Express

The Midtown Express is a transportation project that is reconstructing portions of three major highways that run through Irving, SH 183, SH 114 and Loop 12, to increase capacity on those highly-traveled roads. The $847 million construction project began in April 2015 and is scheduled for completion in 2018.
