GOVERNANCE

Irving has a council-manager form of government, with a mayor and an eight-member city council. All are elected at-large, but city council members holding Places 1-5 are required to live within certain districts. Irving's mayor and council members serve three-year terms.

City council meetings are held twice each month, on alternating Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.

Irving's city manager is appointed by the city council, and hires and oversees the city's department heads and administrative staff.
