K-12 | College and universities | Workforce training

Irving’s educational community provides lifelong learning for its residents. From pre-K through post-doctoral, Irving has schools that meet the needs of growing families, college-bound students and professionals who want to increase their skills and credentials

K-12
Irving has excellent schools, both public and private. The city is served by three independent districts — Irving, Coppell and Farmers Branch — and is home to award-winning schools and innovative programs. The North Hills School, which serves grades 1–12, was the first charter school in Texas to offer the International Baccalaureate Programme. And several private schools offer outstanding college-preparatory curricula.

College and universities
Irving is home to four colleges and universities, and within an hour’s drive of the city are 30 colleges and universities as well as three community college districts. In Irving are:

  • DeVry University
  • North Lake College
  • The University of Dallas
  • The University of Phoenix

Workforce training
Keeping Irving’s workforce ready is a serious pursuit in Irving — and a cooperative one. Several major Irving companies work with area high schools and colleges to prepare Irving’s workforce through programs such as mentoring and job-shadowing, as well as by providing lecturers and input on curriculum development.

Local colleges and universities tailor workforce development and other professional programs to meet the needs of local businesses, often taking them on-site. All offer degree plans — both graduate and undergraduate — tailored to the needs of working professionals.
