Along the SH 161 Corridor, south of DFW Airport, the City of Irving has created an overlay district that supports future growth with high development standards. Through carefully chosen uses and requirements, the City has laid the foundation for the area to develop as a first-class business district.
SH 161 is a vital link in Irving's transportation network -- and one that continues to grow. To the north, the freeway connects with Bush Turnpike, giving Irving excellent access to Dallas' northern suburbs and their highly educated employment base.
Within a few years, SH 161's southern end will be extended from SH 183 to I-30 and I-20. The City of Irving is working with TxDOT and Dallas County to create a transportation grid that will interconnect with SH 161. Several existing roadways are being extended in West Irving, and the resulting access will lay the foundation for new development there.
