Don facilitates the Irving Economic Development Partnership, a unique relationship between the City of Irving, the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber, and the Irving Convention & Visitors Bureau, creating a one-stop shop for businesses, as well as oversees the operations of the Chamber. He guides the Chamber’s marketing, recruitment and retention/expansion programs and provides programs and opportunities for businesses to increase their revenue, reduce costs and expand employment opportunities within Irving. Don accomplishes this through marketing initiatives and direct contact with businesses and providing various networking and training opportunities. Irving was recently recognized in the Top 20 cities in America for job growth in 2014, the only city in Texas to be named to this prestigious list, by Zip Recruiter. Don also facilitates the legislative affairs of the Chamber to be the voice of Irving businesses at the local, state and federal levels of government.
Don has worked with the education community to meet the workforce needs of business. He assists businesses in applying for various grants including Texas Enterprise Fund, Texas Enterprise Zone Projects, and Skills Development. Don has coordinated job fairs and worked with the Texas Workforce Commission, Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas and North Lake College to assist businesses in meeting their employee needs. Under his leadership, 19 small businesses have earned national recognition as US Chamber Blue Ribbon Small Businesses.
Don is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Angelo State University in San Angelo and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas in Austin . He retired from Verizon Communications in 2003 after a 28 year career, and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Don serves on the Board of the Irving Family YMCA, and he and his wife Sharon are active volunteers in their church.
