Access to Quality Workforce

Employers have access to a young, well-educated workforce in Irving. The median age of residents is approximately 32 and over one third of all residents are between 25 and 44 years of age. Nearly forty percent of residents over 25 have earned a two-year college degree, and thirty-five percent have at least a bachelor’s degree. In fact, companies can access over 3.3 million highly-educated workforce within a 30 minute commute.

Irving is the 2nd largest employment center in North Texas with an estimated 218,000 jobs.

Irving consists of five public school districts, along with multiple charter and private schools. Irving schools spend $9,756 per student and the student to teach ratio is 16:1. Irving ISD was recognized by the College Board as its 2015 AP District of the Year.

The Chamber works daily to support the school districts and its students. One Irving, now in its fifth year, is the Chamber's five-year programmatic capital campaign aimed at providing strategic education programs in Irving schools.

Additionally, the Chamber's Education Foundation Board is working with Irving's higher education institutions to develop workforce training opportunities for industries and businesses. Irving is home to the University of Dallas, North Lake College, Universal Technical Institute, DeVry University and the Aviation Institute of Maintenance.

A recent success was a partnership between North Lake College, Nokia and Premcell. The two telecommunication firms, with offices and facilities in Irving, realized an urgent need for qualified technicians, and are collaborating with North Lake College to create a training program that will provide these companies and others with the skilled workforce they need in the North Texas market.
