North Texas’ building boom is reaping big benefits for the city of Irving.

The Dallas County suburb has issued permits for more than $1.1 billion in construction this year, surpassing last year’s previous high by 34 percent.

And with several large companies adding operations in Irving, don’t be surprised if the building totals rise before the end of the year.

The biggest project to start this year in Irving is Pioneer Natural Resources’ $213 million headquarters in Las Colinas. Developer KDC is building the more than 1 million-square-foot complex on Hidden Ridge Drive as part of a larger $1.5 billion mixed-use project.

A new Westin Hotel at the Irving Convention Center is the second-largest Irving project to start this year, with a value of $82 million. It’s next to the $180 million Irving Music Factory entertainment district, which is about to open its doors.

Several large corporate expansions in the city by McKesson Corp.CognizantAtos and Pei Wei Diner LLC will add more construction.

“Investors are pouring into Irving, and the projects they are building range from new hotels to corporate office parks, restaurants to new single family homes,” Irving City Manager Chris Hillman said in a statement.

In addition to the new medical facilities, warehouses, apartment complexes and restaurant and retail projects started this year, Irving also has granted permits for about 700 single-family homes.
