Students in the Homeland Security program and the Law Enforcement program at Singley Academy earned four top three finishes at the Texas Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Association State Competition held July 28 through July 31 at the University of Texas at Arlington. Students competed in teams of four against more than 40 teams from across Texas and Oklahoma in simulated events including felony traffic stop, misdemeanor traffic stop, crisis negotiation, burglary in progress, gang activity, robbery in progress, active shooter, officer down/rescue and arrest/search/seizure.
Singley students earned the following top three team finishes:
First place, arrest/search/seizure
Third place, domestic disturbance
Third place, burglary in progress
Third place, gang activity
Students also competed in individual events such as an obstacle course and bicycle course. Ebyn Ruiz finished third in the bicycle course. Additionally, students had the chance to learn and interact with law enforcement professionals from a variety of agencies including Dallas Police Department, Fort Worth Police Department, the FBI and DEA.
