Trevor Story, an Irving High School graduate, started at shortstop for the Colorado Rockies on Opening Day, according to MLB.com.
Story, a first-round pick by the Rockies in 2011, has dominated the Cactus League. He has hit .381 with five home runs in 42 at bats. His 1.339 OPS is second among Rockies regulars behind All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado (1.526).
The Irving product hit a snag in his development in 2013, hitting only .233 with 12 home runs in High-A Modesto.
But the 23-year-old rebounded in 2014 and took another step forward in 2015, when he hit .279 with 20 home runs in AA and AAA.
