VHA employees, through Integrity Mentors, volunteered last Tuesday at the Student Reassignment Center as part of the company’s 13th annual Community Day.
Students participated in a game similar to “The Game of LIFE,” where they drew a card denoting an occupation and salary. From there, the students, with the help of volunteers, created a budget for their money. The students got a crash course in how to handle unexpected situations such as having a baby or winning money during a drawing. Students and volunteers also talked about spending money wisely.
Integrity Mentors provided backpacks filled with goodies, such as water bottles, pens and other supplies, which were distributed by the volunteers at the end of the school day. As students exited the building, the volunteers and teachers cheered for students and enocuraged them to make wise choices.
VHA, a national health care network of not-for-profit hospitals, and UHC, the alliance of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, combined to form the largest member-owned health care company in the country. The combined organization includes Novation, a health care services company. The companies will announce a new name in January 2016.
