Jumbo jokes and gigantic giggles are in store for the return of North Texas’ largest outdoor comedy festival, Laughs by the Lake, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 4 at Lake Carolyn, 501. E. Las Colinas Blvd. More than just a show, the Laughs by the Lake event offers adult attendees access to good food, fun and free performances by some of the region’s top comedians.
Hosted by last year’s headliner Aaron Aryanpur, the 2015 lineup includes Ryan Perrio, Eunice Elliott and 2009 Funniest Comic in Texas Paul Varghese. Immediately following the two-hour comedy show, Memphis Soul Band will take the stage with a soul and funk music concert.
Being one of the city’s newest events has not precluded Laughs by the Lake from receiving statewide recognition. After its inaugural run in 2014, the Texas Recreation and Park Society presented Irving’s Parks and Recreation Department with the Lone Star Programming Award for Laughs by the Lake. According to judges, Laughs by the Lake is an innovative program that offers a unique recreational experience for adults.
More than 1,500 people are expected to fill the greenspace adjacent to Lake Carolyn with lawn chairs and blankets under the evening sky, so early arrival is recommended. As a reminder, this funnybone-tickling event is geared toward adult audiences.
