Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star announced today that Pierce Bush has been named its Chief Executive Officer. “We are very pleased to have Pierce lead the agency. He is passionate about our mission to help Texas youth achieve their full potential through one-to-one mentoring. Pierce has a contagious winning attitude,” stated Jim Wales, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star.
Pierce Bush comes to this position after serving as President of the Houston region for the organization. In that leadership role, he grew the number of children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters, brought plans for a new headquarters to fruition, engaged many first time donors, and renewed levels of commitment by staff, board members, and existing donors.
“I am honored and excited to take on the additional responsibilities this new role brings. I look forward to developing many new relationships with both business and community leaders across the 100 counties served by Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star. We have an exceptional team at BBBS Lone Star genuinely dedicated to growing our mission by boosting support from donors and volunteers. Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star has many innovative initiatives awaiting the scores of children in need of a caring adult mentor.” Mr. Bush’s favorite role with the organization is being a Big Brother for the last six years. “My passion for our mission comes from my first-hand experience of being a Big Brother. I can testify to the positive, life-changing results one-to-one mentoring provides. Not only is my Little’s life vastly improved, but my own life has been deeply enriched.”
Pierce Bush began his professional career working in private equity. He first became involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters in 2009 when he volunteered to become a Big Brother and was soon matched with Little Brother Jaylyn. In 2012, Pierce Bush was appointed to the organization’s Houston Regional Board. Wanting to fulfill his passion of serving others, Pierce Bush decided to leave the corporate world and join Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star full-time, eventually being appointed as President of the Houston Market. Under his leadership the Houston team increased the percentage of local children served by 22% in 2013.
Pierce is the grandson of George H.W. Bush and believes deeply in his grandfather’s call of living a life of service to others. Raised in Houston, Pierce holds a degree in American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. He is an active member of Ecclesia Church.
