Commissioner of Conference USA, Britton Banowsky, which handles the national college football foundation’s nonprofit.

After spearheading efforts to form Extra Yard for Teachers, a charity founded by the Irving-based College Football Playoff commission, Britton Banowsky has been named head of the CFP Foundation.

Banowsky has served for 13 years as commissioner of Irving-based Conference USA, which partnered with the College Football Playoff Committee to institute the inaugural College Football Playoff championship in January. He will become executive director of CFP Foundation, the playoff’s charitable arm, this fall and continue building Extra Yard.

“I am thrilled to be able to devote my attention on building the CFP Foundation and supporting the great cause of improving public education and the lives of teachers, our greatest asset,” Banowsky said in a statement. “Along with our many partners, we have a great opportunity to use the sport of college football to make a profound social impact, and my hope is we take full advantage of it.”
