Irving ISD Superintendent Jose L. Parra announced Jackie Gorena as the new director of human resources for elementary staffing and auxiliary. Gorena has served as a principal at several Irving ISD elementary schools for 12 years, most recently at Barton Elementary School.
In addition to Barton, Gorena led Stipes and Brown elementary schools. She also served as an assistant principal at Davis and Keyes elementary schools and as an assistant principal and fourth-grade teacher for Pauls Valley Public Schools in Oklahoma. She began her career as a second- and third-grade teacher in Temple ISD in August of 1994.
Gorena was named the Region X Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association Principal of the Year in 2013, and a finalist for the national distinguished TEPSA principal and HEB Excellence in Education Principal in 2012.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Texas State University, a master’s degree in educational administration from East Central Oklahoma and a doctorate from Dallas Baptist University.
Gorena will begin her new position July 1, replacing Patrick Smith, who has accepted another leadership position within the district. Gorena will work alongside Juan Carlos Martinez, who was named HR director for secondary staffing and recruitment in March.
