North Texas ranked 11th in the nation for tech jobs, according to a report released by NerdWallet on Monday.
North Texas has been named the 11th best place in the nation for tech jobs, following Austin as the only Texas cities mentioned in the top 25.
The report comes from NerdWallet, which examined the nation’s largest 370 metropolitan areas by the size of the tech industry, the income for tech jobs and the cost-of-living.
The top area on the list was San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, the heart of Silicon Valley, home to Apple, Adobe and eBay. About 126 of every 1,000 jobs are in the tech industry, with the average tech salary totaling more than $130,000 a year. Median rent is $1,600 a month.
Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, often referred to as Silicon Hills, came in at No. 9. About 58 of every 1,000 jobs are in tech, and the average salary is more than $84,000. Median rent totaled $1,000.
Dallas-Plano-Irving ranked two slots down, following Boston-Cambridge-Quincy. Out of every 1,000 jobs about 50 are in the tech industry, with the average salary set at more than $86,500. Median rent is $908, the report states.
The data was collected from the Bureau of Labor Statistics May 2014 Metropolitan and Nonmetropolitan Area Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates report and also from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2013 American Community Survey.
