The unemployment rate for the City of Irving has declined to 3.6% for the month of December, the lowest rate it has been since before 2005. This was favorable to both the State of Texas unemployment rate of 4.6% and the National rate of 5.6%.
Don Williams, V.P. Economic Development & Operations for the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber, pointed to the economic development activity during 2014 where the City saw wins of 26 new, retention or expansion projects resulting in some 6,175 jobs in Irving.
Williams commented that December may reflect a slightly lower unemployment rate due to seasonal hiring by businesses, but that the foundation is solid for maintaining and growing the employment opportunities for Irving residents into the future.
