Have you seen a similar white van with sensing equipment driving around the streets of Irving? It’s part of the citywide automated Pavement Condition Survey being done by the City of Irving’s Transportation/Streets Department.
This project includes evaluating the condition of all public streets within the city, capturing data about pavement conditions and pavement distress (among other things) and recording it in a geodatabase. The data will be analyzed and used to assist in developing long-term funding and maintenance strategies for the city’s roads.
The Transportation/Streets Department, has currently collected pavement data for about 30 percent of the entire city. Data collection should be completed summer 2015.
