Today newly elected Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick were sworn in on South steps of the Texas Capitol. The outgoing Governor Perry has served in that office for 14 years and 1 month. That makes him the 10th longest serving governor in U.S. history.

The U.S. Senate votes on the Keystone XL Pipeline project sometime this afternoon before President Obama delivers his annual State of the Union address this evening. The President is expected to call for an increase in capital gains taxes on some groups as well as a tax increase on banks with over $50 billion in assets.
