First 5-Star Chamber in Texas Earns 5-Star Rating Again

Hiring Our Heroes recognizes Irving Chamber as Three Star Chamber of Valor

5star_colorThe United States Chamber of Commerce announced today that the Greater Irving – Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce earned a 5-Star Accreditation, which is the highest award and level of accreditation, for the second-consecutive time.

In 2009, the Irving Chamber was the first Chamber in the state of Texas to be accredited with 5-Stars by the U.S. Chamber. The 5-Star Accreditation puts the Irving Chamber in the top 1 percent of Chambers in the United States.

“Being in the top 1 percent of Chambers in the nation solidifies the Irving Chamber’s sound governance, positive community involvement and effectiveness in advancing Irving’s vibrant business community,” said Gary Huddleston, Irving Chamber Chairman and The Kroger Co. Director of Consumer Affairs Southwest Division. “I’m proud of the Irving Chamber’s accomplishments and to lead the Irving Chamber Board in continuing these significant efforts that have been recognized by the U.S. Chamber.”

The only program of its kind in the country, U.S. Chamber Accreditation recognizes an organization for being a catalyst for its positive action in its community, quality programs, and clear organizational procedures. Of the more than 7,000 chambers in the United States, only 89 chambers have been awarded the 5-Star achievement.

“The Irving Chamber’s 5-Star Accreditation was made possible by the staff’s steadfast dedication and six months of work on this extensive review of our organization,” said Beth Bowman, President and CEO of the Greater Irving – Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce. “We are pleased to have sustained this high level of performance and earned this honor again. We will continue our daily mission to create, advance and promote economic development for Irving, our strong workforce and investors.”

To achieve accreditation, a chamber must exceed standards in its operations and programs. The Irving Chamber achieved a perfect score in governance, human resources, government affairs, program development, technology, communications, facilities and benchmarking, according to the U.S. Chamber’s final report. The extensive self-review took six months to complete.

“Accreditation validates a chamber as having programs that benefit their local economy and for positively influencing action in their community,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, U.S. Chamber Executive Director of Political Affairs and Federation Relations. “We applaud these organizations for advancing the principles of free enterprise.”Three-Star Chamber of Valor

Additionally, the Irving Chamber was honored by Hiring Our Heroes with the highest rating as a Three-Star Chamber of Valor. The Chamber of Valor acknowledges the contributions of local chambers, industry associations and business development organizations that join the Hiring Our Heroes mission of finding meaningful employment for veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.
