Singley Academy has been designated by the Texas Education Agency as a Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academy for the 2014-15 school year. The school first received this desgination in 2011.
To become a designated STEM academy, schools are expected to follow a blueprint and demonstrate that they maintain the integrity of the model, which was designed to improve instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects at secondary schools.
The focus of the program is student engagement and exposure to innovation. Schools within the network are expected to focus instruction on learning that models real-world experiences.
The initiative aims to closely align high school curriculum with admission requirements of competitive colleges and the STEM qualifications for 21st century jobs.
