The city of Irving and Mortenson Development Inc. selected Westin Hotels & Resorts as the operator for the Irving Convention Center and Las Colinas Headquarter Hotel near two other major developments in the city.

The $90 million hotel is scheduled to break ground later this year with its grand opening slated for late 2015.

The hotel will have 350 rooms, a 300-space parking lot, 20,000 square feet of meeting room space and will connect to the 275,000-square-foot convention center via a sky bridge. The city expects the hotel to attract large-scale conventions, restaurants and other visitor attractions.

Westin is part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. headquartered in Connecticut.

The announcement comes just a few days before the Irving City Council prices the bonds for the Las Colinas entertainment complex, the Music Factory, which is scheduled to open in 2016.

Meanwhile, Fram Development is expected to bring plans for the North Shore mixed-use development to the city later this spring. The $300 million development is expected to include 161 square feet of office space, 109,000 square feet of retail, more than 1,000 residential units and two hotels, according to the Irving Chamber of Commerce. The development will be just east of the convention center.

Gable’s Residential also is working on a development in the area. Just across from The Mustangs of Las Colinas, the developer is expected to build a $100 million mixed-use center that will include 60,000 square feet of shops and restaurants and 400 high-end apartments. The developer is working with the City Council to get the appropriate approvals.
