Irving Chamber Joins Fight against EPA’s Harmful Regulations

The Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce recently signed on to a “friend of the court” brief in a lawsuit being considered by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court recently agreed to hear a legal challenge brought by the U.S. Chamber and other groups on the EPA’s unilateral decision to use the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases (or “GHGs”) from “stationary sources” – which includes everything from office buildings and bakeries to refineries and power plants. Experts estimate that these regulations will cost $300-$400 billion per year to implement.

 Irving Chamber Presents at TCCE 2013 Government Affairs Conference

Last month, The Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE) hosted the 2013 Government Affairs Conference in Austin, Texas. Government affairs professionals, chamber executives, attorneys, and chamber volunteers all gathered to participate in this informative conference.

Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, Chris Wallace, and Director of Legislative Advocacy, Jason Simon, gave a presentation on building effective governmental affairs committees at a chamber of commerce.

Other presentations included “How to Effectively Message and Engage Members on Public Policy,” “What You Need to Know About Operating a Political Action Committee,” and “How to Monetize Governmental Affairs Programs.”

 

Irving Chamber Attends Business Briefing at White House

On December 18, 2013, the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce attended a business briefing at the White House to discuss the President’s economic priorities. This was an opportunity for business leaders from the Chamber to share their advice and expertise with senior Administration officials and meet with fellow business leaders from around the country.

U.S. Chamber President Delivers State of American Business Address

On January 8, 2014, U.S. Chamber President and CEO Tom Donahue delivered his annual State of American Business address.

During the address, Donohue unveiled the Chamber’s 2014 Jobs, Growth, and Opportunity Agenda, which includes expanding trade, producing more domestic energy, improving infrastructure, modernizing the regulatory process, making essential changes in entitlements, fixing the flaws in Obamacare, curbing lawsuit abuse, and advancing American innovation by protecting intellectual property. The agenda also focuses on revitalizing capital markets, passing immigration reform, and efforts to improve education and training.
