December unemployment rates have been released and Irving’s unemployment rate declined to 5.1%, the lowest it has been since August 2008.  Irving’s December 2012 unemployment was at 6.2%,   This significant decline was achieved even with the total workforce growing by more than 4,700 during 2013, while at the same time, the number unemployed declined by nearly 1,200.  Irving’s unemployment rate has consistently remained below both the State of Texas rate and the National unemployment rates, which were 6.0% and 6.7% respectively in December 2013.
