The city’s Transportation Department will be changing the north and south lanes along MacArthur to allow for dual left turning movements northbound and southbound. This improvement will provide increased capacity to serve the heavy left turn movement that exists today along this section of roadway. This change will also give the department the ability to adjust signal timing to provide additional green time for the through traffic and side street frontage road traffic.
Phase I starting now includes closing the left turn access to WB 114 from NB MacArthur. Traffic will be detoured north on MacArthur to Royal Lane; west on Royal Lane to Connection Drive. Another option is to go north on MacArthur to SH 161 and then left on SH 161 to connect to SH 114.
Phase II includes removing/modifying the median on the MacArthur overpass.
Phase III will involve closing the left-turn access to EB 114 from SB MacArthur. Traffic will be detoured south to Walnut Hill Lane; east on Walnut Hill Lane to access EB 114 service road.
And Phase IV will be to modify the traffic island at the southeast corner of MacArthur and 114.
The project may take two to three weeks, depending on weather, to complete. Although this project isn’t on the city website yet, for more details, call the Transportation Department at 972-721-2646.
