The Irving district officially hired Jose Parra as its new superintendent Thursday. The board unanimously gave Parra a contract through 2017 for $250,000 a year. He will replace Dana Bedden, who took a buyout earlier this year after board politics turned against him. Parra’s record as superintendent at Lockhart ISD convinced trustees he could handle Irving, which is seven times its size. His five-year leadership of Lockhart coincided with a dramatic spike in graduation rates. Parra begins work in Irving ISD on Jan 6.
