Helping Owens Corning celebrate 75 years in business, the leadership of the Irving plant hosted a luncheon on October 21st for their employees.  As part of the celebration, Mayor Pro Tem Gerald Farris presented a proclamation from the City thanking Owens Corning for providing more than 200 job opportunities for Irving residents and declaring it Owens Corning Day in Irving.  Shirley Dobson, from State Representative Linda Harper-Brown’s office, thanked Owens Corning for being in Irving and having plants throughout Texas.  Pictured are Shirley Dobson, Kevin Bohne – the Plant General Manager in Irving, and Mayor Pro Tem Farris.  Don Williams from the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber also attended the celebration and thanked the company for choosing to locate and expand their presence in Irving.

The Irving facility was built in 1951 by the Fry Roofing Company and was subsequently obtained by Owens Corning in 1978.  The company gave special recognition to employees who had 20 or more years of service with the company.  It was noted that every bundle of roofing shingles leaving the facility has “Irving” stamped on the wrapper.
