The Cheddar’s in Irving looks different. It’s more modern, with a new sign, stone walls, new wooden features and most importantly, new food. The company’s flagship restaurant in Irving celebrated these changes with a grand re-opening Monday. Chef Robert Pesch described some of the food changes as guests sampled Asian salad, grilled baja chicken and a strawberry cheesecake mini. Verdict: all were delicious. Other Cheddar officials who attended the event wereChris Hooper, area director; Kevin Wylie, new general manager; and Tom Koenigsberg, chief brand officer.
Based in Irving, Cheddar’s will roll out these changes at its 140 restaurants nationwide. The company is ranked third for growth by Nation’s Restaurant News and will expand westward with restaurants opening in Arizona and New Mexico. The company was founded in 1979 by Aubrey Good and Doug Roberts, who opened the first Cheddar’s in Arlington. In 2012, Zagat ranked Cheddar’s the nation’s No. 1 full-service restaurant chain. Consumer Reportsalso ranked the restaurant No. 1 in Pub Style or Grill Category in two restaurant surveys in 2009 and 2012.
