HMS Inc. recovered $3.2 billion in erroneously paid health care claims for its customers last year, Bill Lucia, president and CEO of the Irving-based company, told me in a recent interview.

“I think it’s important for the Dallas business community to understand that a company that has that much impact on getting the health care claims payment process to be accurate is in the Dallas business community,” Lucia said. The company employs about 2,500, including about 1,800 in Dallas-Fort Worth, Lucia said. In the past five years, HMS has grown from about 500 employees in the area.
