Irving/Coppell Neighborsgo editor Gloria Hernandez reports that Irving will provide specialty grocer chain Trader Joe’s an estimated $3,052,860 economic incentive to locate its southwest regional distribution center in Irving. Trader Joe’s has purchased a building at 5101 Frye Road with 728,000 square feet. The location is south of State Highway 183, off Valley View Lane. The economic incentive agreement, unanimously approved by council at a recent meeting, requires Trader Joe’sto own and occupy the building for at least 15 years; create and maintain 185 full-time jobs that earn an average annual salary of $30,000, excluding benefits; and maintain taxable property values of at least $60 million over the 2012 valuations. If the city’s terms are met annually, Trader Joe’s and its affiliates in the building will qualify for a 10-year, 85 percent tax rebate.
