Longtime Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star board member Robert R. Roby
has been appointed CEO of the Irving-based organization, effective May 20. Roby told me this morning that his top goal will be to continue the organization’s rapid rate of growth. “I think the key is to continue to deliver our message to the community we serve as to value and the tremendous results achieved through our one-on-one mentoring programs,” Roby said. He is especially excited about Big Brothers Big Sisters’ continuing rollout of e-mentoring, which allows volunteers to mentor electronically, he said. “For many people in this day and age, that is a more interesting concept of mentoring,” Roby said. “We think it will dramatically expand the number of young men and young women at risk that we are able to support.”AT&T
Inc. (NYSE: T) and other large North Texas corporations have embraced the e-mentoring program, he said. Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star now serves about 10,000 at-risk students per year.
