NEC Corp., the Japanese electronics giant, is in talks to sell its struggling mobile phone unit to Lenovo Group Ltd., Reuters said. Lenovo is NEC’s partner in a personal computer venture, Reuters said. NEC Corp. of America, NEC’s U.S. division, is headquartered in Irving, while Lenovo’s U.S. headquarters is in Morrisville, N.C. Reuters said that although NEC said its mobile business is an important component of overall operations, two years of losses have caused the company to shed some assets in hopes of shoring up profitability.
