On April 4th, the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce hosted the visit of Mr. Byambatsogt Sandag (in center of photo), who is a Member of Parliament in Mongolia.  He was accompanied by Mr. Bayanmunkh (at far right in photo), a local resident who is a participant in the Irving Sister Cities committee.  Mr. Sandag was on vacation in the U.S. and was visiting his friend, Mr. Bayanmunkh, who arranged to stop by the Chamber office for an “unofficial” discussion.

The City of Irving has a Sister Cities relationship with Darkhan, Mongolia and the objective of the meeting was to find ways for Irving and Darkhan to re-connect and establish an on-going dialogue in order to pursue cultural and trade potential.

During the informal chat, Mr. Sandag commented on positive political and economic developments in Mongolia in recent years, highlighting sectors that are booming (i.e., mining and construction) and he offered to be a conduit for the Chamber’s interests and initiatives related to trade, cultural exchanges and foreign direct investment with Mongolia.

Chamber representatives in the meeting included Mr. Chris Wallace, President & CEO of the Chamber, and Joe Chapa, Executive Director of Irving Sister Cities.  Ms. Christina Winters-Gears, Chair/President of Irving Sister Cities committee and committee members, Mr. Dan Matkin, Myrna Mercer and Leslie Carpenter, Director of the Irving-Las Colinas EB-5 Regional Center, were also active participants in the discussions, which were deemed very fruitful.
