The 6th Annual Celebrating Irving activities continued with a special presentation in conjunction with the Irving Public Library April 13thChautauqua program.  The event was held at the Central Library, 801 West Irving Blvd. and begin at 2pm.  Guest speaker was Tracy Hoffman, Ph.D., of Waco.

Dr. Hoffman is the president of the Washington Irving Society and teaches American Literature at Baylor University. Her scholarly work includes studies on John Steinbeck, Edith Wharton, George Washington, Phillis Wheatley, and Washington Irving, a writer who consumes most of her scholarly energy. Dr. Hoffman is currently working on an article about Irving’s relationship with Mary Shelley and a book project titled Searching for Madam Bradley: African-American Women of the Oklahoma Territory, a study based on a female character in Irving’s Tour on the Prairies.
