The songs flowed. The applause resounded. The elegant event that celebrated the 20th anniversary of Lyric Stage proved to be a success, according to many guests. Held at the Irving Convention Center, the evening included the presentation of the Spotlight Award to Lyric Stage supporters Ralph and Joy Ellis. Mayor Beth Van Duyne also presented the couple a key to the city for the support of the arts in Irving. Governor Rick Perry sent in a video message. Catherine Whiteman of ICTN served as emcee and introduced the entertainment. Julie Johnson, Greg Dulcie, Dara Allen and Steve Barcus sang classic numbers from Lyric productions. Gary Okeson accompanied on piano. And because one singer was sick, guests got a treat. They heard Lyric founder Steven Jones sing. Leslie Carpenter and Sandra Maxwell co-chaired and a slew of volunteers pitched in to help, including Maura Gast of the Irving CVB who made sure everything ran smoothly. Up next for Lyric is the musical Too Many Girls
, which runs from April 26 to May 5.
