Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) reported Thursday that it had better-than-expected first-quarter results. The company, whose U.S. headquarters is in Irving, said it sold roughly 1 million of the new Z10 smartphones in the quarter and shipped about 6 million of the devices. BlackBerry said net income for the quarter was $98 million, or 19 cents per share, Reuters reported. That compares to a loss of $125 million, or 24 cents per share a year earlier.
