2013 marks the 110th anniversary of the founding of the city of Irving in 1903. Students are invited to explore the theme of transportation in Irving’s past and present, “From Rails to Wings.”

Subjects can include, but are not limited to, trains, light rail, aviation, public transit, highways and automobiles as well as human- and animal-powered vehicles. Along with artistic merit, artwork will be judged by the creative use of the theme.

Deadline: Entries must be postmarked or hand-delivered by May 17, 2013 to the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75062.

Eligibility: All students in the age groups of: Ages 6–9, Ages 10–13, and Ages 14–17. Who are residents of Irving and/or attend a school located in the City of Irving, are eligible to participate. Children of employees of the City of Irving, the Irving Arts Center and the contest’s sponsors are not eligible to participate.

A first, second and third place winner will be selected from each age group. Winners will receive certificates, ribbons and a cash award. Up to 10 “Honorable Mention” awards will also be selected from each age group, and those individuals will receive certificates and ribbons.

Cash awards for each age category: First Place $100, Second Place $75, and Third Place $50. All award-winning artwork, including honorable mention awards, will be exhibited at the Irving Arts Center, Aug. 3–Sept. 29, 2013.
