image001Annual Bookmark Design Contest: Reading Is Delicious: The Irving Public Library invites the community to let its creative juices flow for the 2013 Annual Bookmark Design Contest running through March 31. The theme for the contest, now in its tenth year, is Reading Is Delicious, because those looking to satisfy their cravings for great literature will always find something to enjoy at their public library. Entry forms are available at all Irving Public Library locations and recreation centers. A first, second and third place winner will be selected in six categories, offering many opportunities for recognition. All entries must be original artwork and suitable for display. Archery Clinic: Want to have fun learning how to shoot a bow and arrow? The Irving Police Athletic/Activities League (IPAL) is offering a free archery clinic for ages 10-18 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. March 5 and 19 at IPAL, 1550 Rock Island Road. No registration required however, parents or guardians must sign a waiver. Participants may attend one or both clinics. For more information, visit irvingpal.org.

Engineering for Kids: This Rec n’ Motion event at 4 p.m. March 8 at the Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail, brings science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to children, ages 4-14. Children will experience hands-on learning of engineering concepts in a fun and challenging way. Daylight Saving Time: The Irving Fire Department reminds residents to change the battery in their smoke detector when changing their clocks for Daylight Saving Time on March 10. For more information about smoke detectors, call (972) 721-2651.
