For the eighth consecutive year and the 23rd time in the past 26 years, the Nimitz Academic Decathlon team has represented Irving ISD at the state meet.

The team left on wednesday morning to make the long journey to El Paso for the state tournament.  The bus departed from Nimitz High School, February 20 at 11:00 a.m.  The meet will take place February 22-24.

Nimitiz was so dominant at the regional meet, it bested second place Flower Mound Marcus by 3500 points and third place Coppell High School by nearly 7000 points. Nimitz students won a total of 64 individual medals, led by Timothy Betts with 12, Blaine Stevens with 11, and But Nguyen and Rebecca Van Pamel each captured 10. Michel Castillo and Matthew Jauregui also won 7 medals.
