Britain Way–a deteriorating apartment complex on Lane Street just east of O’Connor that has been completely transformed. Built in 1962, the complex had no community center, pool or resident lifestyle services. Drainage was poor, lighting was dull and asbestos and lead-based paint were present in the 168 units. Plus, the city received many calls about code violations. It was no small task to update the property. But owner/developer Deepak Sulakhe and a team of multifamily housing experts got to work. One year later, they unveiled a new, cleaner and safer apartment community that also boasts being the only affordable LEED Gold-Certified apartment complex in Irving. New features include expanded kitchens, energy efficient appliances, sloping roofs, additional bathrooms in two and three bedroom units, a clubhouse, an on-site resident activities coordinator and more. The complex also complies with the Irving Police Department’s “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Designs” requirements. Helping with crime reduction is the addition of perimeter fencing and more lighting.”
