Irving-based Vice Chairman and COO, Cynthia Blankenship, was recently recognized by NerdWallet, a financial literacy website, in their new resource for small business owners. Blankenship, one of only four women profiled in the CEO Series on Small Business Lending, provided advice on lending and offered her own small business predictions for 2013.

Cynthia L. Blankenship is a past chairman of the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA), the only national trade association that exclusively represents community banks. She was recently selected to serve on the Advisory Committee on Community Banking, established in 2009 to give the FDIC advice on issues that affect community banks.

During an interview with NerdWallet, Cynthia L. Blankenship, described Bank of the West as¬†“unique because we really do specialize in making small business loans under the Small Business Administration. We have specialized in using that program since we opened our doors in 1986.”

“We became one of the first lenders in the Dallas Ft Worth metroplex to be given the distinction of Preferred Lender under the program, which meant we were licensed to do our own underwriting as opposed to sending the loan to the local SBA office. This, in turn, allowed us to better serve our local small business by cutting down the approval time drastically.” said Blankenship.
