The $50,000 will be dedicated to Big Brothers Big Sister’s “Beyond School Walls,” a program that invites students to a work environment and introduces them to professional standards and educates them about career opportunities. Though the “One Irving” initiative and with the help of Verizon, an average of 140 students in Irving per year will be matched with a Big Brother/Sister from the Irving business community.
“Verizon always seeks to partner with excellence and we believe we’ve done this by our investment in Irving and Big Brothers/Big Sisters” said David Russell. “Our company made Irving our primary corporate campus location in Texas 25 years ago and it’s still a great place to live and work.”
To date, approximately $2.7 million in confirmed pledges have been made to the ‘One Irving’ campaign and continues to grow. Contributions from Verizon and others in the business community help keep moving Irving in the right direction in its effort to build a better tomorrow.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas is committing substantial resources to recruit volunteers and implement the services for “Beyond School Walls,” which includes child and volunteer enrollment/assessment, educational services and match support.
The Chamber is committed to the unlimited potential of our youth and advocating the importance of educating our future workforce. Since November of 2011, leaders from the business community have joined the Chamber led campaign to raise $3.1 million for ‘One Irving.’ The Chamber is proud to partner with businesses like Verizon to increase education attainment and workforce readiness for Irving’s future workforce.
