Honorable Linda Harper-Brown and Christina Winters Gears decided in 2011 that they wanted to have an event once a year, to honor women in Irving, who have volunteered and been active members of the community all their lives. A traditional high tea was decided upon, so the women could dress up and wear their finest hats, just as they did in the very first suffragette meeting.
This year’s honorees all have lived and been active in Irving for decades and were very humbled to be honored as Exemplary Women of Irving. The families and friends of the honorees came out to support the ladies and were treated to tea sandwiches, scones, champagne, and of course tea! Each honoree was brought up before the crowd and Honorable Linda Harper-Brown praised them and read their proclamation stating all their accomplishments, and were given flowers by the previous year’s honorees Kitty Boyle, Fran Bonilla, and Norma Stanton.
