The 2012 Legacy Award went to Dr. John F. Townley, a former Irving ISD superintendent. Anne Pfaff, who started the Irving Schools Foundation, accepted the award on Townley’s behalf and praised his commitment to education. Following the award presentation, Jeff Copeland conducted a live auction and then The Hi Roller Band provided entertainment. The gala raised $250,000 for the foundation. Started in 1985, the foundation raises funds to award scholarships to graduating seniors and provide grants to teachers in the Irving ISD. Nimitz student Katie Holt impressed guests when she talked about her family, her school and her goals. The well-spoken teenager has won several state titles and scholarships and stays busy with an array of extra-curricular activities. She is also very lucky. She won a diamond ring at the Irving Schools Foundation’s Legacy Gala.
