As part of the 100th Anniversary celebration of the Irving Heritage House, the Irving Heritage Society recently held a reception to honor some of Irving’s oldest organizations. Guests packed the home ofJoe and Diann Contestabile for the event. Mary Oberlin, anniversary co-chair, welcomed guests. Her anniversary co-chair and Heritage Society President Chris Wallace helped recognize the groups along with State Rep. Linda Harper Brown. Among those receiving special gifts and a certificate were South MacArthur Church of Christ (1890), St. Luke’s Catholic Church (1902), Promotional Products Association International (1903), First Baptist Church (1904), First United Methodist Church (1908), Irving Masonic Lodge No. 1218 (1924), Order of the Easter Star Irving Chapter 777 (1925), the Irving Chamber (1932), Oak Grove Memorial Gardens (1933), Irving Garden and Arts Club (1934), American Legion Post 219 (1939), Ben Washington Baptist Church (1941), Old Kit Cemetery Association (1947) and many other groups who are at least 50 years old.
The Heritage House, 303 O’Connor Road, is open for tours from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 4 and Dec. 2. Another upcoming event for the Heritage Society is its annual Treasures and Oddities Silent Auction and Sale on Nov. 8 at La Cima Club. Call 972-252-3838 or visit irvingheritage.org.
