The City of Irving has released its Operations Update for September.

Strategic Goal No. 2: Vibrant Neighborhoods

Code Enforcement Results – Throughout the year, Code Enforcement has identified and targeted areas of the city with the highest number of violations. To date, these proactive efforts have resulted in the following:

  • The Property Code division has addressed 36 locations that were identified in last year’s windshield survey of the city.
  • Multifamily inspectors have increased the number of comprehensive inspections of the lowest performing apartments, four-plexes, manufactured homes, and hotels and motels in Irving.
  • Health inspections are improving poor performing food establishments in the city. Through increased proactive inspections and follow-ups, as well as additional food handler training classes in both English and Spanish, inspectors have reduced the number of Risk Level 4 restaurants by 64 percent since the beginning of the year.
  • Keep Irving Beautiful has been instrumental in helping to improve the appearance along the city’s main corridors.

Strategic Goal No. 7: Cultural, Recreational and Educational Environments

NASA Traveling Exhibit  The Irving Central Library is the only library in Texas selected to host the “Here, There, and Everywhere” NASA-funded exhibition. The display is designed to build interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The exhibition will be at Central in August 2013.

Strategic Goal No. 8: Sound Governance

Cost Savings and Efficiencies  City departments continue to streamline processes, achieve efficiencies and enhance effectiveness, without losing sight of quality and customer service. Cost savings and efficiency projects implemented during the first three quarters of FY 2011-12 produced more than $1.6 million in total benefit and value added to city operations through cost savings, cost avoidance and volunteer services.
