Irving-based Research in Motion will launch a new PlayBook tablet computer next week in Canada that has built-in support for cellular networks. Up until this model, PlayBooks were only Wi-Fi capable. In coming months, the tablet will roll out in the United States, Europe, South Africa, Latin America, and in the Caribbean. The new PlayBook is the first RIM product to use the QNX operating system that Research in Motion is adapting for its new generation of BlackBerry smartphones that are due out early next year.
